Officiant Services Questions

What types of wedding ceremonies does Minister Michael officiate?

We offer an economical ceremony starting at a flat $295 plus tax and includes travelling local on the Leeward side, custom ceremony script plus optional Lei exchange, Koa bowl ring blessig and all legal filing. We are mindful that coming to to Hawai'i is expensive by itself and the cost of a wedding adds to that. We want you to have enough money left to enjoy the rest of Hawai'i. Ask about other add-ons for sand ceremonies, travel to the WIndward side, etc. Round trip travel from Oahu to outter islands are at the couple's expense.

How far in advance should we book Minister Michael for our wedding in Hawai'i?

It is adviseable to book as early as possible, ideally a month or more in advance. Especially for popular wedding seasons in Hawai'i. However we have performed ceremonies where other Officiants were no shows, (it happens!) we do short notice ceremonies including same day.In fact, if you have hired someone else, pay $100 (non refundable) and we will stand by ready to step in. We charge a small refundable $50 reservation fee to hold your date and time with the balance due within a week before the ceremony. There are upcharges and upon availability for holiday dates like Valentines. Christmas, New Years and others.

Were do we get Lei for the Lei exchange?

You can get simple purple orchid Lei at most any ABC store, Long's Drug stores, Safeway and even Costco. If you want something custom see WatanabeFlorist at https://watanabefloral.com or call at 808-832-9360. They are located at 1618 N. NImit Hwy, Honolulu , HI. 96817.

Guidance for Your Ceremony

What about our marriage license? Where do we get it?

In Hawai'i, you go online to: https://emrs.hawaii.gov/emrs /public/home.html. You complete the application online and when you arrive in Hawai'i can go to the Health Department together with valid ID and pick up your "pink slip", Bring it with you for Michael to validate, sign and file with the State.

Do we need a permit to marry on the beach?

You do ! The DLNR is the conservator of public State beaches to keep them from being over utilyzed (ruined) by commercial ventures. Go To: https://DLNR.Hawaii.gov/LD/commercial-activities/ There, you can get an approved beach list., apply for your permit that would include your party, photgrapher, officiant and allows for video recording. See the rules as there are restrictions as to what may be put on the beach. We could get it for you, and including the required insurance the permit would be $100 and allows you to use the spot 2 hours. It also covers your photographer and others. Some City and County beach parks have separate permitting so contact them directly after you review their rules at: https://www.honolulu.gov/dpr/park-use-permit/

There are many botanical gardens on Oahu, do we need a permit for that?

Botanical gardens, expecially Ho'omaluhia Botanical Gardens in Kaneohe are most desireable due to mountain backdrops and a lakeshore with 100s of Japanese koi are very nice. Foster Botanical Gardens in Honolulu is an oasis in the middle of the city within walking distance from your hotel. There is no permit feee but generally they issue them free and only charge you an entrance fee. They say they need three weeks to process a permit.( I have an inside guy). Go to https://www.honolulu-botanical-gardens/hbg-permit-information/ Remember these fees and permits help run the agency who conserves and protects these sacred habitats. They get no tax money.

" Michael went above and beyond. He and Mindy were the perfect choice for us. We had covid a month prior, and I was so sick, I never got to shop for something to wear. I found a Hawaiian dress and a matching shirt at our hotel the day before. That's what we wore. No witnesses, just Michael, Mindy and us. The ceremony was really lovely. He wrote our Vows, which were beautiful. He's a very nice man. Afterwards, he asked us if we were in a hurry to get back, and we went for a nice ride around Diamond Head. It was a great experience for us. I would highly recommend him.

My (now) wife and I were more than satisfied with his services. He worked with us on creating a ceremony that fit what we wanted and he was open to tailoring it to our needs. We emailed back and forth about what we wanted and he was very responsive (that same day sometimes within an hour or two) We let him know we wanted to write our own vows and he requested that we send it to him so he can print it out and not have to worry about it on our wedding day. On the day of the ceremony, Minister Michael was early, he talked about what would take place and let me know he would guide us during the ceremony which was much needed since I was so emotional I could barely get through my vows. The ceremony he performed was beautiful. He even wore a traditional priest outfit. After the ceremony was finished he stayed to take pictures. To top everything off he gave us a gift and did a blessing of the food which he totally did not have to do but made it all the more special. If you are looking for a wedding officiant, Minister Michael is the person you should choose!

Kahu Michael is a listener. I didn't Leis. When we took the flame from two tikis and lit one as the sun set was very romantic. The music was magical and Kahu's words committed us for life. He wrote our vows with us just for us. We would have paid him the $1,000 it would have cost us to marry in Napa Valley but cost well less than $500 in Hawaii. We recommend anyone to Kahu Michael. "My parents renewed their vows for their 50th wedding anniversary after celebrating on a dinner cruise off Honolulu. It was a surprise to them when Michael showed up. We didn't tell them we had some vows written for them. Michael officiated poolside with the exchange of the Lei, re-blessed the rings in a koa bowl full of seawater to cleanse away the hard times and refresh anew their future of good times. Even my small son was able to participate. Michael played the "Hawaiian Wedding Song" then the top ten hits from 1966. He made the day extra special for all of us, my Mother and Father most of all.
